As home to the region's largest heart care program, we offer you and your child compassionate, comprehensive care. Our multidisciplinary team includes cardiovascular-thoracic surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, perfusionists, advanced practice nurses, technologists and more − all experienced professionals specially trained to care for children and their families.

Exceptional survival rates

At more than 95 percent, first-year survival rates of our pediatric heart transplant program boast impressive longer-term recovery. This compares to national averages for first-year survival at 87%. In addition, after one year of surgery, most our patients experience no limitations in normal childhood activity.

Using the latest technologies

New technologies enable our team's diagnostic and surgical expertise to save more lives. One recent example is the Berlin Heart, a device that helps children awaiting heart transplants.

Dedicated intensive cardiac care facilities

Our dedicated nine-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit focuses only on postoperative cardiovascular surgery patients and critically ill cardiology patients.

Family-centered care

We help families with insurance certification, hospital paperwork and serve as liaisons for directed blood donations and pre-operative scheduling. Our center also offers numerous pediatric professionals to help families navigate their healthcare experience here. National recogition

Ranked 18th in the nation by U.S.News & World Report for pediatric heart care and heart surgery, we are the only pediatric cardiac program in Illinois on the 2010 list.
