Nursing

Nearly half of all certified pediatric oncology nurses in the state of Illinois work at Children's Memorial Hospital. Read more.

Outstanding excellence in nursing services at Children’s Memorial has been recognized yet again in 2010 by the granting to the hospital its third consecutive Magnet status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. Fewer than 1% of hospitals have achieved this accomplishment of maintaining the designation three or more times. More here about the Magnet designation at this hospital.

As the first freestanding children's hospital in the country and the first hospital in Illinois, in 2001 Children’s Memorial Hospital was granted the first of its three prestigious Magnet designations, which it received again in 2005 and again in 2010.

Also a 2008 nursing survey ranks us as a "top hospital in organizational culture."

Furthermore, we're also one of a handful of hospitals in the country to be designated a “Destination Nursing” hospital by the Nursing Executive Center, a division of the Health Care Advisory Board. The designation recognizes our ability to recruit and retain nurses during the current shortage. Averaging below 10 percent, our nursing turnover rate is consistently low.

Our hospital's employee promise is "to cultivate a challenging yet compassionate work environment, to help you achieve your professional and personal goals, to recognize your strong performance, and to listen to your feedback and act upon it. Fulfilling this promise is how Children's Memorial will remain a great place to work."

To deliver on this promise, we offer up to $5,000 per year in tuition reimbursement, grants for research and external conferences, flexible scheduling, a weekend incentive program, a tax-sheltered annuity, a results- sharing program , RN internship program and a Clinical Ladder.
